The Funchal-Monte Cable Car connects the old area of Funchal (Madeira Island, Portugal) to Monte, in approximately 15 minutes, allowing a panoramic view of the city along the route. It consists of 42 cabins with 8 seats each, operated by a single-cable cabine system with a detachable clip.

Construction of the Funchal-Monte Cable Car began in September 1999 and was inaugurated in November 2000; the route was designed to recover the tourist role of the Trem do Monte, which existed between 1887 and 1943.

The cable is 3,178 m long and 43 mm thick and is based on 11 conical metal towers that maintain a distance of 5.5 m between the two branches of the cable, some located in the middle of the urban network. The longest span is 550 m, between towers number 3 (the tallest, at 39 m) and 4, with the cable branches exceptionally spaced 6.5 m apart. The motor, located at the base station, has a power of 302 kW.

The base station is located in the Almirante Reis garden, in the historic area of Funchal, with the top, in Monte, halfway between Largo das Babosas and Jardins do Monte. In this location, there is a pedestrian connection with the top terminal of the Jardim Botânico Cable Car and it is not far from the Monte station, on the Trem do Monte rack railway, which was discontinued in 1943.
